Suchindram Temple


The Suchindram Temple lies some 11 kilometers from Kanyakumari. This is a temple dedicated to the three chief Hindu Gods, Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. While Brahma stands for creation, Shiva stands for destruction and Vishnu stands for balance in nature. This temple has two interesting legends associated with it. This 134 feet temple of Suchindram is architecture of amazing dexterity and endeavor. The whole of the front face of the temple covered with sculpting from the Hindu mythology. Inside the temple is the Lingam, representing the three Gods. The Suchindram temple is very famous for the musical pillars. The pillars are constructed in such a way that when they are tapped, they give off various musical notes. Besides there is also sculptures of Hanumana, the devotee of God Rama and also the sculpture of several other Hindu deities
Festivals
Two festivals are celebrated in the Suchindram temple and these are the times of attracting maximum public to the temple. One of these is the Markhazi festival during which the deities are taken out for traveling through the city and the other is the Chiththirai. The former is celebrated sometime in December or January and the later during April or May.
