Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Throws up a Treasure Trove

A treasure trove of gold, diamonds and precious stones- unofficially estimeted at hundreds of crores of rupees- was unearthed from an antechamber to one of the six vaults in Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple .


Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Secret Chambers Opening process is going on and when the 5th chamber has been opened and the estimated value of the treasures including Gold Chains, Diamonds found in the chambers were reached Rs. 20,000 Cr. The process has been started on June 27, by the order of Supreme Court.



More that 1 ton gold has been found in the 5th chamber. Among the treasure were a huge idol of Sree Padmanabha Swamy, 3 diamond-studdedgolden crowns, a Gold bar, thousands traditional golden necklaces, one of them being about 18 feet-long and weigh more than 3 Kg. Countless other jewelery, more than 1200 ‘Sarappali’ golden chains ( some supporting Navaratnas),golden plates, a chain of golden coins of 1732 vintage, diamonds including belgium diamonds, and precious stones including ‘cat’s-eye’,rubies and emeralds were among the other articles found innside the vault ‘A’ located on the southern side of ‘Nalambalam’ inside the Chandanamandapam.



The 5th chamber that was opened yesterday was the biggest source of treasure and the dark underground chamber was constructed at the south corner of Narasimha Moorthy temple.The doors of the chambers were secured with Iron bars followed by 2 strong doors made of wood.Inside that, there is a passage with steps going downwards, through which only one human can walk at a time.The passage ends in another room having 8 feet width and 8 feet length. The treasures were kept hidden inside the stone walls of that room, which has marks of ‘Snake’ and ‘S’ letter. The archeological department confirmed that the ‘Snake’ symbol is for danger and ‘S’ symbol is for doors that can be opened.



So far only a portion of this unearthed wealth have been counted and weighed. Consequent to Thursday’s find the security in and around the temple has ben strengthened. The inventorying of vault ‘A’ will continue on Friday also



The 6the Chamber will be opened today, Friday 1st July
